Britain’s Lee MacDougall Wraps Second U.S. Tour with Plans to Return in Spring   Leave a comment

BRITISH SINGER-SONGWRITER LEE MACDOUGALL WRAPS UP
SECOND U.S. TOUR WITH PLANS FOR RETURN VISIT IN SPRING, 2012

Rising British singer-songwriter-guitarist Lee MacDougall, who first arrived on U.S. shores in February, has just completed his second multi-city American tour and is already set for a return in spring, 2012. Next stop for the personable artist will be a show in his hometown of London and a return visit to Germany, followed by shows supporting Atlantic Records artist Rumer on her multi-city U.K. tour.

MacDougall’s “All The Right Places” tour, which comprised nearly three dozen shows in August and September, wrapped last week at New York’s famed Bitter End nightspot, followed by the taping of the nationally-syndicated television program, BetterTV.  Over the course of the tour, he made appearances on numerous local television programs in various markets, including taping a session for Season 2 of “All Jack’d Up” on Dallas’ CBS11, which will air this fall.

MacDougall has released two self-produced CDs-IF WALLS COULD TALK and FOR A FEW TALES MORE-that have been available at his live shows and now from his website (www.leemacdougallmusic.com). Known for mesmerizing audiences with emotionally-driven melodies and resonating vocals, he will be finishing a studio version of “Stay,” one of the standout tracks from IF WALLS COULD TALK, with an eye toward servicing it to radio in conjunction with his next U.S. tour. Music Connection Magazine wrote of him: “MacDougall’s lyrics are like those out of a storybook, painting the picture of love’s harsh realities through song. With soothing harmonies and bright guitar strums, MacDougall is somehow able to turn the pain of love’s emotion into something bittersweet.”

Originally from the fishing town of Grimsby in the north of England, MacDougall emerged from the open mic night circuit in London that has spawned new acoustic English artists in the last two years.  His ability to couple a strong lyrical narrative with a memorable melody has enabled him to establish an international fan base.

Upcoming Lee MacDougall dates include:    October 21-Regal Room, London; 21-Radio Oriente, Karlsruhe, Germany; 28-Kellerclub, Stuttgart; 29-Kino Atlantis, Munich; November 3-Café Steinbruch, Duisburg, Germany; 4-Petit Papillion, Dusseldorf; 10-Blackpool Opera House, Blackpool (supporting Rumer); 11-Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow, Scotland (supporting Rumer); 12-Sheffield City Hall (supporting Rumer); 13-Newcastle City Hall (supporting Rumer) and 15-O2 Apollo, Manchester (supporting Rumer).

MacDougall is slated to tour Europe in January and February and return to the U.S. in early March, 2012, beginning with a series of shows in Texas and the southeast.

US Tour 2: Blog 1   Leave a comment

Hello

to you It’s great to be back in America. Who turned up the sun?! Yes it is hot, but after a lifetime of cold I am loving it. My skinny jeans are now officially part of my anatomy.. which is cool because I should never be allowed to wear shorts in public.. First night back in NYC at The Bitter End was amazing, so good to see so many familiar faces again and great to hear everybody singing along. It’s always a pleasure to get the chance to speak with everyone afterwards, and thank you again for your generous gifts. Hope to see you all back in NYC on Saturday October 1st back at the Bitter End. It’s gonna be the last show of the tour so bring your friends and let’s make it one to remember 😉

This was also the first night that my new EP “For a Few Tales More” was available, feels great to finally put it out there to everyone after working on it in London this summer. Hope you guys like it – be sure to let me know if you have some new favorites!

So then on to Philly and a show at the World Cafe Live. Very cool venue. I opened for an amazing band with an incredible lead singer.. didn’t catch their name though. Someone comment if you were there!

Chilled in Narbeth, Philly, on Saturday morning and then made my way to Fairfax Virginia for a private show on Saturday night. I always love these shows and this one was a lot of fun. Met some great people and nearly went blind on the punch. This made for an interesting question and answer session afterwards!

Had to catch a megabus (oh the glam) from DC to Richmond Virginia the next morning. The bus was scheduled to leave at 11.15am and at 10.45 we were still several miles away at iHop finishing our pancakes. This resulted in a Jason Bourne style mad dash through DC to make the bus on time. We then proceeded ignore the no entry sign into the bus depot and sped the wrong way through the bus lanes to pull in front of our bus just as it was pulling away. Managed to flag it down as security ran at us screaming into their radios “DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE ONTO THE BUS!!!”.. oh the hilarity. Had to utilize every inch of our British accents to persuade the driver to let us board. Good job too. It was 105 degrees and a long walk to Richmond.

Sat next to a little girl who asked me if I wanted to play Barbie dolls with her. I politely declined and then she asked me if I was on American Idol. I tried to explain to her that we were on a Megabus…

Arrived later that day in Jacksonville North Carolina to play a private show in a Veteran’s of Foreign War club. Pretty random, but a lot of fun. Jacksonville is a beautiful place too.

Stopped off the next day at “South of the Border” in South Carolina on the road to Atlanta Georgia. This was an experience and a half. If you have been then you will know of it’s epicness. Had my photo taken on top of a 200 foot tall sombrero. Couple that with the honey-flavored Jack Daniels that I have just discovered and I’m still giddy with the excitement.

More from me soon…. if you happen to take any pics/video of me out on the road, please contribute to my planned tour journal and send anything you have to tourphotos@leemacdougallmusic.com

Atlanta tonight (8/11), Birmingham Alabama tomorrow (8/12) and Nashville on Saturday (8/13)

Road trip anyone?

LMD

X

Report from The Hard Rock Calling Festival 2011   Leave a comment

If you’re sitting comfortably then let me begin.
I want to tell you a tale about a gig where I‘ve been.
It all starts on 26th June 2011, Hyde Park London.
I had brought my tickets for the Hard Rock Calling Festival, many months ago, to see BonJovi. Then on the 16th June I heard the awesome news on Facebook that Lee was to perform at the festival too! I could not believe the luck of that. I had been kicking myself for the past week I had not taken the opportunity to meet Lee in Naples when I saw him play at the Itacon2, and even more so for not buying his limited edition EP. Maybe there would be a chance to do both at Hyde Park.

So I knew Lee was playing the bandstand at 2pm, We travelled to London on Friday night and stayed with a friend to make sure we were there in time for his early set. I had been telling Lucie how much I enjoyed Lees performance and sending her links too , so by the time we got there she was just as excited to see Lee as me. The Bandstand Stage was a little hard to find, I had to ask several officials. On the way I had to nip to the toilet, while I was in there I heard Lee singing…….he must have been doing his sound check. I ran out and caught up with my group and told them we must be near, I could hear him. Sure enough the band stand stage was just around the corner and we arrived with about 15 minutes to spare.

The weather this morning was quite grey and overcast, but as Lee took to the stage the sun came out. I shouted “Lee you made the sunshine” then felt immediately embarrassed for my out burst. Lee acknowledged my statement….and smiled. “ Yes “ he said.
Forgive me if I cannot remember the exact order of the set list , I should have took notes, but I was too busy jumping up and down like a lunatic and singing along , but Lee sure packed a lot into his half hour set.
The sound was amazing. How one man and a guitar on an open air stage can project such a powerful performance was just magical to behold. Okay maybe not all magic, maybe electricity , amps and speakers assisted a little here too. But you know he sounded even better than in Italy. I was totally captivated.
Among the songs performed were Falling in love for the last time, Joanna, The star hotel, How to be, She, and London in the summer. Everybody groaned when Lee told us he had run out of time, we wanted him to stay and play more. But I guess these kind of events are dead strict on such things to ensure things keep to time. The next band was waiting to sound check.

Lucie seized the opportunity to get Lees autograph before he left the stage, and made his way to a hut behind the shed. Minutes later he appeared with a can of beer and then posed with some children who had patiently waited for a photo. I grabbed Lucie and said come on lets get a photo too. Lee kindly agreed to pose for single and a group shot. While we did so I managed to tell him I had enjoyed his performance both today and in Naples he asked me if I had seem much of Naples…I said no just the hotel and the train station. I was a little star struck and lost for words. His manager appeared selling the Cds, I stopped him and brought one . Lee then went over to talk to some friends . I asked the manager if Lee would sign my CD , and he called him back over. Suddenly I found myself holding a can of beer. I was about to take a swig then realised it was Lees, good job I didn’t. He had given it me to hold while he signed. Opps .I asked him if he would be watching Bon Jovi later, he said he would . Then he went to get some beers for his friends. We had a little chat with his manager, we talked about Naples ,he told us they would soon be off to the States and then Germany.. Lee seemed to like this area of the festival he was hanging around there most of the day with his friends. I was a great opportunity to see him play at such a great festival……..and you know what….I enjoyed it even more than seeing the head liners…………shhhhh don’t tell JonBJ I said that!

Thanks very much to Anni Jowett for this amazing report and for sharing it with us!
